Parents in Covered California, Kids in CCHIP

Many parents living in the Bay Area will qualify for a health plan and financial help through Covered California and their children will qualify for County Children's Health Initiative Program (CCHIP). CCHIP is only available to San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara County residents. As with Medi-Cal, sometimes parents want to decline CCHIP and add those children to the Covered California plan, but unfortunately, this isn’t an option.

Parents who decline CCHIP enrollment for their child will continue to qualify for financial help for their health plan, but children can only be enrolled in a separate, full-cost (unsubsidized) plan through Covered California.

If you have questions about CCHIP enrollment, contact CCHIP at (833) 912-2447, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., or on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The call is free.
